HERBARIUM
Iwona Pasińska
poland
ZIELNIK/HERBARIUM is the fifth choreographic film directed by Iwona Pasinska. It is a fairy-tale episode, told with tenderness, gushing with the intense colours of flowers and élan vital. Choreography composed to a suite by Edward Grieg and presented by the artists-dancers of the Polish Dance Theatre takes the audience into the world of flora. It allows to explore a day in the life of a plant from the moment it blooms to the end, drowned in warm nostalgia. We invite you to immerse yourself in the beautiful world of flowers and leaves, in the greens, reds and purples transitioning to the greys and browns of the autumn. And all this told with movement to the rhythm of the dynamic sounds of the suite Peer Gynt op. 1 performed by Trondheim Symfoniorkester & Opera.
A Butterfly Is Knocking on the Window
Mohammad Hasani
iran
Injuries do not always manifest themselves as visible scars.
It all started from a ruined house whose window glass was broken. I think that when women are harmed by their family or society, they are broken like the window glass of a house, and now this breaking can take many forms.
The Fell of Dark
Marla Phelan, Tim Richardson
usa
In the wake of a tragedy, a chorus of mourners, gather at a sacred site to perform a ritual dance of grief. Expressing symbolic gestures, waves of interconnected movement, and funeral-like processions that swirl like a murmur of starlings, these women, with faces covered by veils of black hair, dance to grieve the loss of a loved one. The Fell of Dark is made in response to the hundreds of thousands of lives lost to the Opioid Crisis and to the families who have been silenced by its stigma.
THE SWALLOWTAIL
Sumi Xiaoméi Cheng
Germany/ China/ Uk
The Swallowtail screen dance – a short film by Sumi Xiaomei Cheng. Stuck in local urban-apartment-complex life, Covid-lockdown stimulated reflections on the facets of home. Layers of time passing: the film’s aesthetics are inspired by the green nature-themes of Sally Mann and Rousseau. All events, work, family-gatherings that didn’t happen, a swallowed tale. The swallowtail is a butterfly in London’s Kew Gardens’ glasshouse. Metamorphosis: following the light out of the pandemic, making me a butterfly.
charged
Daniel Gwirtzman
usa
Charged showcases an over-caffeinated Everywoman in her kitchen on the brink of disaster. A portrait of a driven, detailed woman who manages an array of tasks, alternating between the discipline of accomplishing and the daydream of departure. Humor, grit, exhaustion, frustration, and liberation emerge as themes as the soloist pursues unexpected and surprising actions within an expected and unsurprising setting.
Disconnect
Evi-Sullivan Toyne
uk
Disconnect is an intimate exploration into the daily struggles of living with mental illness and neurological conditions. An artistic exploration into the prevalence of masking among AFAB (assigned female at birth) neurodivergent people and its deep impacts.
An experience forming dance theatre and film, revealing the unrest and discomfort behind the seemingly normal presentation of someone slowly breaking. Delving into a life when your brain is against you, and a world that refuses help. How long can someone hold that front? What toll does it take? When will they finally break? What is it like when the world is too bright, too loud, too overwhelming, simply just too much? Do you fight it? Or do you disconnect?
noise
Zsuzsanna Vass
romania
A female figure in a space, in real or imagined confinement, accompanied by real or imagined noises. Her journey through this space tells the story of desire, curiosity and fear of freeing herself from being trapped. At the end she has to face who or what is leading her to the way out.
The work was inspired by the building of a closed Tobacco Factory, where time stood still for more than ten years. The film plays with light, body, and time in this space.
